The semi-automatic carton sealer is designed to perform top and bottom tape sealing on corrugated cartons after an operator manually folds the top flaps. The machine’s core function is to apply pressure-sensitive BOPP tape uniformly across both the top and bottom seams of a carton as it passes through the sealing station, creating a consistent, tamper-evident seal that protects contents during shipping and storage.
Key functional capabilities include: adjustable carton width and height via handwheel cranks, allowing the machine to accommodate carton sizes ranging from 150mm to 500mm in width and 120mm to 400mm in height without tools; dual side belt drive systems that grip the carton firmly on both sides and convey it through the machine at a consistent speed, ensuring even tape application regardless of carton weight or surface texture; top and bottom tape cartridges that hold standard 48mm, 60mm, or 72mm BOPP tape rolls, with adjustable tape tension to accommodate different tape brands and carton surface types including glossy, film-coated, or recycled corrugated; and a manual flap folding guide bar that helps operators fold top flaps quickly and uniformly before the carton enters the sealing station. The machine also features an adjustable conveyor height from 600mm to 800mm, allowing it to be integrated with existing conveyor lines or used as a standalone workstation.
This fully automatic model features auto height sensing and PLC control, eliminating manual size adjustment and increasing throughput by 30% compared to semi-automatic models.

How It Works & Operating Principle
Carton Infeed
Operator places the carton with bottom flaps folded onto the conveyor
Side Belt Conveying
Dual side belts grip and convey the carton through the sealing station
Top & Bottom Tape Sealing
Tape cartridges apply adhesive tape to top and bottom seams simultaneously
Sealed Carton Output
Fully sealed carton exits the machine, ready for labeling or shipping
The semi-automatic carton sealer operates on a straightforward mechanical principle driven by a single electric motor and a series of belt and roller transmissions. When the operator places a carton with the bottom flaps already folded onto the infeed conveyor, the dual side belts — driven by the motor through a reduction gearbox — grip the carton on both sides and pull it forward into the sealing station. The side belts are spring-loaded to maintain consistent pressure against the carton sides, compensating for minor variations in carton width and ensuring stable conveying even when cartons are slightly warped or out of square.
As the carton enters the top sealing station, a tape cartridge positioned above the carton applies the leading edge of the BOPP tape to the top surface of the carton. The tape is pressed against the carton by a foam rubber pressure roller that conforms to the carton surface, ensuring full adhesive contact even on slightly uneven corrugated surfaces. As the carton continues forward, the tape is unrolled from the cartridge and laid across the top seam. At the end of the sealing station, a stationary cutting blade — angled at approximately 30 degrees — severs the tape cleanly, and a second foam roller presses the trailing edge of the tape firmly against the carton. The bottom sealing station operates on the identical principle, with a tape cartridge and pressure roller positioned below the conveyor line. The entire process is purely mechanical with no PLC or sensor control, making the machine highly reliable and easy to maintain. The operator’s only manual function is folding the top flaps and guiding the carton onto the conveyor — all sealing, cutting, and pressing operations are performed automatically by the machine’s mechanical systems.

Fully Automatic Sealing: 20m/min for Medium-Volume Lines
The Automatic Carton Sealer eliminates manual carton loading — operators simply place cartons on the infeed conveyor and the machine automatically aligns, conveys, top-seals, and bottom-seals in one continuous motion. At 20m/min, it processes 30-40 cartons per minute, making it ideal for medium-volume packaging lines transitioning from manual to automated operations.
Ideal Application Scenarios
- Medium-volume e-commerce warehouses processing 1,000-2,000 cartons/day where semi-automatic (15m/min) is too slow but high-speed (25m/min) is overkill
- Food production lines sealing standardized product cartons (same size, high volume) where automatic feeding improves consistency
- Beverage packaging sealing cartons of bottles/cans at a steady cadence matched to upstream filling line output
- Electronics manufacturing sealing product boxes at the end of assembly lines with consistent carton sizes
Automatic vs. Semi-Automatic Comparison
| Feature | Automatic | Semi-Auto Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Sealing Speed | 20m/min | 15m/min |
| Cartons/Min | 30-40 | 15-20 |
| Operator Role | Place on conveyor only | Manual load + align |
| Bottom Sealing | Automatic | Manual fold required |
| Daily Output | 1,000-2,000 | 500-800 |
Real-World Performance Data
In a 2026 food production facility in Chengdu sealing 1,500 cartons/day (standardized 300x200x150mm snack boxes):
- Throughput: 35 cartons/min average (2,100/hour theoretical max)
- Operator reduction: 2 operators → 1 operator (50% labor savings)
- Sealing consistency: 99.8% first-pass success (vs. 97% with semi-auto)
- Automatic bottom-fold mechanism: Zero misfolds in 15,000 carton test
- Tape waste reduction: 8% less tape usage due to precise automatic alignment
- Integration: Connected to upstream form-fill-seal machine via 2m conveyor
Selection Guide
Choose Automatic if: Daily output is 1,000-2,000 cartons, carton sizes are relatively standardized, and you want to reduce operator involvement.
Choose Semi-Auto Standard instead if: Output is under 800/day or carton sizes vary significantly (manual loading handles size changes better).
Choose High Speed (25m/min) instead if: Output exceeds 2,000/day and your carton sizes are highly standardized.
