Why a Strapping Machine Belongs at the End of Your Line

A strapping machine feeds, tensions, seals and cuts PP (polypropylene) strap around a carton or bundle automatically. It exists for one reason: strapped cartons survive transit. Strap holds cartons together against handling stress, keeps bundles from shifting, and deters tampering and pilferage. The cost per strap is fractions of a cent of PP strap — far cheaper than the product damage it prevents.

Standalone Strapper or Combined Seal & Strap Machine?

If your line already has a carton sealer and you just need cartons secured for shipment, buy the ASM-2000 and link it downstream of the sealer. If you are setting up a new line and both sealing and strapping are required, the ASSM-2000 (sealing at 8–12 cartons/min + strapping at 2.5 s/strap, 2.0 kW, 650 kg frame) does both in one pass — less floor space, one transfer point, one control point. A combined machine also removes the typical bottleneck at the transfer between separate sealing and strapping stations.

Choosing PP Strap: Width, Strength, and What the Machine Needs

All SunAura automatic strappers run PP (polypropylene) strap, the standard for cartons and light-medium bundles. Width guides accept 9 mm to 15 mm; wider strap = higher tensile strength, choose 12–15 mm for heavy cartons and export bundles, 9 mm for light e-commerce parcels. PP strap must be stored dry and used within its shelf life — brittle or damp strap causes tension failures. If you need steel-level strength for metal bundles or very heavy loads, tell us your application; we advise on strap type and machine configuration before quoting. Because the machine tensions and heat-seals the strap automatically, tension stays consistent across every bundle — a level of repeatability no manual tool can match.

Speed, Positioning, and Integration Decisions

Speed: 2.5 seconds per strap means roughly 20–24 straps per minute in continuous use. That is ample for most lines; the real limit is usually carton feeding, not strapping speed. If you strap more than 1,500 cartons/day, plan a conveyor-fed layout so the operator never hand-carries cartons to the machine.

Positioning: the strapping position and height are adjustable, so one machine can place a single strap on small cartons or two straps on long bundles. The front-loading strap dispenser swaps rolls in under a minute.

Integration: the ASM-2000’s 1400×650 mm footprint and standard conveyor height connect directly with case sealers upstream and pallet wrappers downstream. The ASSM-2000 is a drop-in end-of-line unit (3200×1400×1800 mm) that links to erectors, fillers and conveyors.

Running Costs and Payback

Strap cost is the main consumable: at typical PP strap prices, a single strap costs fractions of a cent, so even 1,000 straps a day adds up to very little. The bigger saving is labor — one strapping station replaces one or two people hand-tensioning and crimping, and automatic strapping removes the ergonomic and consistency problems of manual tools. Energy is minor: the ASM-2000 draws 0.75 kW, and the ASSM-2000’s single 2.0 kW motor powers both sealing and strapping rather than two separate motors. Planned maintenance is about one person-hour per week. Most buyers see payback inside 8–14 months depending on local labor rates, and machine life expectancy is well over a decade with basic care.
