Carton Sealing Machine — the Last Step That Decides Whether Your Goods Arrive Safe
A carton sealing machine (also called a carton sealer, carton taper or box sealing machine) applies pressure-sensitive BOPP tape to the top and bottom seams of a corrugated box as it passes through the machine. It replaces hand taping, which typically costs 3–5 seconds per box and produces inconsistent, easy-to-open seals. A sealer does the same job in under 4 seconds with the same pressure every time.
SunAura builds three families of carton sealers: semi-automatic (an operator folds the top flaps, the machine seals top and bottom in one pass), fully automatic (auto height sensing, no manual adjustment), and corner / L-shape sealers (tape applied to all four vertical edges for 360° reinforcement). Every machine is built in our 48,000㎡ factory in Qingdao, run-tested for 48 hours before shipment, and CE certified.
Daily output
This decides everything. Under 800 boxes/day: a semi-automatic sealer at 15–20 boxes/min is enough, and it handles mixed sizes better because changeover takes about 30 seconds with a handwheel. 1,000–2,000 boxes/day: step up to an automatic sealer (20–30 boxes/min). Above 2,000 boxes/day with standardized cartons: use the high-speed model (up to 40–50 boxes/min, 0.75 kW motor) or add a second sealer in parallel.
Carton size range
Standard models accept width 150–500mm and height 120–400mm. If your boxes exceed 500mm width, choose the wide-range variant (up to 600mm). If you seal 15kg+ cartons or thick-wall export boxes, choose the heavy-duty variant with reinforced side belts. Measure your biggest and smallest box before requesting a quote.
Sealing method — center seam or corner
Standard top/bottom sealing is enough for most shipments. Corner sealing applies tape to the four vertical edges and increases stacking strength by 40–60% — specify it for heavy cartons (15kg+), long-distance export, or high-value goods such as appliances and electronics. An L-shape machine combines both in one pass.
Line integration
All SunAura sealers have an adjustable conveyor height of 600–800mm and dual side-belt drive, so they connect directly to case erectors upstream and strappers or pallet wrappers downstream. If you plan a full line later, buy a sealer with the same conveyor height as the rest of your equipment.
Tape and environment
Sealers run standard BOPP tape in 48, 60 or 72mm widths. Common Buying Mistakes to Avoid
Buying on speed alone. A high-speed sealer is only as fast as your operator and upstream line; if your boxes vary in size or your line feeds slowly, the extra speed is wasted money.
Ignoring carton quality. Warped or out-of-square boxes cause tape misalignment; spring-loaded side belts compensate for minor variation, but heavily damaged boxes should be rejected upstream.
Forgetting the tape itself. Different tape brands and glossy/recycled surfaces need different tension settings — SunAura sealers offer adjustable tape tension on every cartridge, but you should still run a tape trial with your actual box.
Skipping voltage checks. Confirm your local supply (220V/50Hz or 110V/60Hz or 380V) before ordering; all SunAura machines are voltage-customizable at no extra cost.
