QINGDAO, China — SunAura Machinery has successfully commissioned a complete vacuum packaging and case packing line for an Australian macadamia nut processor based in Byron Bay, New South Wales. The installation, completed last week after a two-week on-site commissioning, is SunAura’s first complete-line delivery to the Australian nut processing market.

For a second recent delivery, SunAura also commissioned a high-speed cup forming thermoforming line for a disposable food container producer in Southeast Asia — including the commissioning notes on sheet gauge and tooling temperature.
Why the Customer Chose SunAura
The Australian producer — a family-owned operation processing 2,000 tonnes of macadamias annually — had been running vacuum packaging on manual double-chamber machines. Labor costs in Australia made the manual operation unsustainable, and the company wanted a line that could scale from 500 kg/day to 2 tonnes/day as its export business to China and Southeast Asia grew.
After evaluating equipment from three European suppliers and one Australian integrator, the customer chose SunAura primarily on total cost of ownership. The European quotes were 2.5–3x higher for equivalent throughput, and the Australian integrator was essentially reselling Chinese-built equipment with a markup.
The Line Configuration

| 4 | Case sealer + strapping machine | 600 cases/hour |
| 5 | Stretch wrapper | 30 pallets/hour |
| 6 | Modular conveyor system | 22 meters, single HMI |
Commissioning and Local Support

Two SunAura service engineers traveled to Byron Bay for the two-week commissioning. The project included installation supervision, operator training for four staff, and a three-day food-safety hygiene training session (Australian food export standards are among the strictest in the world). The line was handed over to the customer on schedule, with a 12-month warranty and remote diagnostics access.
According to the customer’s operations manager, the biggest surprise was the line’s washdown capability. All food-contact surfaces are 304 stainless steel with a No. 4 finish, and the electrical cabinets are IP65 rated — meeting Australian food safety audit requirements without modification.
Australia: A Growing Market for SunAura
Australia and New Zealand represent a smaller but higher-value market for SunAura. Australian food producers demand: stainless steel construction (no painted mild steel), Australian standard power (415V three-phase), English-language HMI documentation, and local food-safety certification. We’ve now shipped individual machines to Australian customers since 2022, but the Byron Bay project is our first complete integrated line down under.
The Australian food packaging market is growing as local processors look to reduce reliance on imported packaged goods. We’re now building a local spare parts stock in Sydney to reduce shipping time from the current 7–10 days to 2–3 days for Australian customers.
Based in Australia or New Zealand and evaluating packaging equipment? Send your product, throughput and facility requirements through the contact page. We’ll provide an Australian-specification quotation (415V power, English documentation, 304/316 stainless options) and put you in touch with the Byron Bay customer for a reference call. Existing Australian customers can request support through the after-sales service portal.
More case studies from our Asia-Pacific deliveries — including the Indonesian snack line and a New Zealand dairy project — will be posted to the news section and solutions gallery over the coming weeks.
