Overview

The PW-GF1800 is our gantry frame cylindrical wrapping machine, designed for wrapping large-diameter cylindrical products such as big paper rolls, heavy steel coils, cable drums and large wire reels. The gantry frame construction provides exceptional stability and rigidity for handling large, heavy cylindrical loads that exceed the capacity of standard radial wrappers.

Accommodates cylindrical products from Ø500-1800mm in diameter and 400-3000mm in width, with a throughput of 25-40 pieces per hour. The rotary table rotates at 0-12rpm with variable frequency control, at a fixed height of 500mm. Maximum load capacity is 2000kg. The gantry frame houses the film carriage and guides it in a precise radial pattern around the cylindrical product.

The gantry design ensures consistent film tension and wrapping quality even for the largest and heaviest rolls. The radial wrapping pattern provides complete coverage of both the cylindrical surface and end faces. Ideal for paper mills, steel service centers, cable manufacturers and heavy industry. CE certified, with optional V-shaped roller supports, crane loading integration and custom configurations available.

Understanding the Wrapping Process

Step-by-step operation for consistent results.

1

Position Large Load Under Gantry

Use a forklift or overhead crane to position the large or oversized load under the gantry frame. The gantry design accommodates loads up to 1800mm wide and 3000mm tall, with custom sizes available for even larger loads.

2

Gantry Frame Lowers Over Load

The gantry frame lowers over the load, positioning the rotary wrapping arm at the base of the load. Photo-eye sensors detect the load dimensions and automatically adjust the wrapping program. The gantry design eliminates the need for a rotating turntable, making it ideal for very heavy or irregular loads.

3

Attach Film to Load

The film tail is automatically attached to the load using a mechanical clamp system. For very large or irregular loads, the operator may manually assist with initial film attachment. The system verifies film attachment before starting the wrapping cycle.

4

Gantry Rotary Wrapping Cycle

The rotary arm revolves around the stationary load while the gantry frame moves vertically, wrapping the entire load from bottom to top. Because the load remains completely stationary, even very heavy, tall, or irregular loads wrap perfectly without any risk of tipping or shifting. Film tension is precisely controlled for each load type.

5

Film Cut & Gantry Raises

Once the wrapping program completes, the film is automatically cut and clamped for the next cycle. The gantry frame raises to its home position. The operator removes the wrapped load with a forklift or crane. The system is immediately ready for the next load, achieving 15-30 loads/hour depending on size.

How to Choose the Right Gantry Frame Wrapping Machine

Key factors for your specific operation.

FactorRecommendation
Load Size CapacityStandard 1800mm wide × 3000mm tall. Custom gantry sizes available for loads up to 3000mm wide and 5000mm tall. Measure your largest load before ordering.
Load WeightBecause load remains stationary, weight capacity is limited only by floor strength, not machine capacity. Standard design handles loads up to 5000kg, with reinforced options for heavier loads.
Load TypeIdeal for large, heavy, irregular, or unstable loads that cannot be rotated on a turntable. Suitable for construction materials, metal products, machinery, and oversized items.
ThroughputRated 15-30 loads/hour depending on load size and wrapping program. For higher volumes, consider multiple machines or automated conveyor systems.
Floor SpaceFootprint approximately 4500×4500mm for standard model. Requires adequate ceiling height of 4500mm minimum for gantry vertical movement. Custom sizes require more space.
Automation LevelSemi-automatic standard (manual load placement, automatic wrapping). Fully automatic versions available for specific load types with conveyor integration.

Expert Selection Tips

  • Gantry frame wrappers are ideal for loads that cannot be rotated — measure your largest load before ordering
  • For very tall loads (>3000mm), confirm gantry vertical travel and ceiling clearance requirements
  • Gantry wrappers require significant floor space — plan layout carefully before installation
  • For irregular loads, request factory test with your actual products to verify wrapping quality
  • Consider adding corner protection application for loads with sharp edges that could tear film
  • Gantry design eliminates load tipping risk — major safety advantage for heavy or unstable loads
