Telescopic Gravity Roller Conveyor | Extendable Loading Conveyor

Telescopic Gravity Roller Conveyor

The SunAura telescopic gravity roller conveyor is an extendable 2–3 stage free-flow boom that pushes from the warehouse floor deep into a truck trailer or shipping container. Collapse it to 2–3m when not in use and extend it to 4–8m when loading. No motor — cartons roll by gravity on galvanized rollers, and caster wheels let a single operator move it around the dock.

Product Description

The SunAura telescopic gravity roller conveyor solves the oldest problem in loading docks: how to move cartons from the warehouse floor to the back of a truck without a worker walking in and out with each box. The unit is a 2–3 stage nested boom. When collapsed it takes up just 2–3m of dock space; when a truck backs up, an operator releases the locks and pulls the boom out to 4–8m, reaching deep into the trailer. Cartons placed at the dock end roll downhill on free-spinning Φ50mm galvanized rollers all the way to the tail of the load.

Because it is unpowered, there is no cord to trip over and no motor to maintain — just gravity and good rollers. The whole assembly sits on heavy-duty caster wheels with brakes, so it can be wheeled between dock doors as needed. Adjustable legs (600–1200mm) let you set the right decline for the carton mix, and an optional scissor-lift base raises and lowers the whole boom to match truck floor heights. Load capacity is 30kg per meter, which covers most standard shipping cartons.

It is the fastest way to upgrade a manual dock: no civil works, no power installation, no trained operator required. Two people load a full trailer in a fraction of the time it takes to carry each box by hand.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Extends from 2–3m to 4–8m: Nested boom sections reach deep into a trailer or container, collapsing to a small footprint when not in use.
  • Unpowered gravity flow: No motor, no power cable, no energy cost — cartons roll downhill on free-spinning galvanized rollers.
  • Mobile on braced casters: Heavy-duty caster wheels with brakes let one operator roll the boom between dock doors.
  • Adjustable height 600–1200mm: Match the decline to truck floor height and your carton weight — lighter cartons need a steeper angle.
  • Optional scissor lift base: Raise or lower the whole boom hydraulically to match any truck or container floor without manual leg cranking.
  • Galvanized Φ50mm rollers: Rust-resistant rollers built for outdoor and dock-side use where moisture is common.
  • One-person loading: Eliminates the need for a worker to walk inside the trailer carrying each carton — far safer and faster.
  • No installation required: Rolls off the truck, unboxes, locks the casters, and starts loading — no civil works, no electrician.

Application Industries

Truck Loading / Unloading

Reaches from the dock floor to the truck tailgate so cartons roll in or out without manual carrying.

Container Stuffing

Extends inside shipping containers so a single operator loads cartons to the far end of the container.

Warehouse Dock Operations

Shared between multiple dock doors on casters — buy one unit and move it where it is needed that shift.

Logistics Centers

Fast turnaround of parcels and cartons at distribution centers without a fixed dock conveyor installation.

Temporary Conveyor Lines

Peak-season or event logistics — wheel it in for the rush, collapse and park it when the season ends.

Product compatibility: Rigid, flat-bottomed cartons and boxes up to 30kg/m. For heavy cartons or high-volume loading where gravity is too slow, step up to our motorized telescopic roller conveyor.

How the Telescopic Gravity Conveyor Works

The boom telescopes out to bridge the gap between the dock and the far end of the trailer, then gravity carries the carton the whole length:

  1. Position at the dock door. The operator wheels the collapsed boom to the dock, locks the caster brakes, and adjusts the leg height to set a gentle decline toward the trailer.
  2. Extend the boom into the trailer. Release each section’s locking lever and pull the nested booms outward until the tip reaches the load point inside the truck or container.
  3. Set the decline. The dock end sits higher than the trailer end by 1–5 degrees, so a carton placed at the dock end will roll forward on its own.
  4. Cartons roll down the full length. The operator places each carton on the dock-end rollers; gravity and free-spinning Φ50mm rollers carry it to the far end of the trailer.
  5. Collapse and park after loading. When the truck leaves, push the booms back in, re-lock them, release the brakes, and wheel the unit to the next dock or storage.

Is This the Right Conveyor for You?

This telescopic gravity conveyor is the right fit if your operation matches all four of the following. If you fall outside any of them, our team can recommend a different SunAura conveyor:

  1. You load/unload trucks or containers by hand: If a worker currently carries cartons from the dock to the back of a trailer, this boom cuts that labor dramatically. If you already have a fixed dock leveler or forklift, it may not be needed.
  2. Rigid cartons up to 30kg/m: Gravity works on rigid boxes. Soft bags, sacks and heavy pallets need a different solution.
  3. You can accept a gravity decline: The dock end must be higher than the trailer end. If your truck floor is higher than the dock, you need the optional scissor lift or a motorized telescopic unit instead.
  4. Medium volume loading: This is ideal for a few trucks a day. If you are loading high-volume parcel trailers continuously, choose the motorized telescopic roller conveyor for powered, faster flow.

Troubleshooting Guide — Common Issues & Solutions

Telescopic booms have a few extra moving parts compared with straight gravity conveyor. Below are the most common dock-side issues and fixes.

  • Trailer floor higher than dock; legs not adjusted; no scissor lift fitted.
  • ProblemPossible CausesSolutions
Boom won’t extend / retract smoothlyLocking levers still engaged; inner boom rollers binding; debris between sections; slide rails dry.
    • Release every locking lever on each nested section before pulling.
    • Clear carton, tape or debris caught between the telescoping sections.
    • Wipe slide rails clean and apply a light dry lubricant.
    • Check caster brakes are released so the whole unit can float as you pull.
Cartons stall partway down the boomDecline too shallow; boom not straight; rollers seized; carton bottom too light.
    • Raise the dock end to increase the decline to 2–3 degrees.
    • Make sure the boom is not sagging downward in the middle.
    • Hand-spin each roller; clean or replace seized rollers.
    • For very light cartons, increase the slope slightly.
Cartons fly off the end too fastDecline too steep; too long an unsupported run; no brake rollers at the tip.
    • Reduce the decline to 1.5–2 degrees.
    • Add brake (friction) rollers at the boom tip to slow the carton.
    • Have a catcher inside the trailer ready to receive each carton.
Boom sags or wobbles when extendedToo far extended for load; locking pins not engaged; support legs not down.
    • Do not exceed the rated extended length and 30kg/m load.
    • Engage the locking pin on each extended section.
    • Lower the adjustable support legs to the floor before loading.
Height doesn’t match the truck floor
    • Crank the adjustable legs up or down to match.
    • If truck heights vary widely, add the optional scissor-lift base.
    • Use a dock leveler to even up the truck and dock floors first.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How far can it reach into a truck?

Standard units telescope from a 2–3m collapsed length to 4–8m extended. Most truck trailers are 12–13m long; one boom covers roughly half to two-thirds of the trailer depth. For full-length container loading we recommend pairing two booms or using a motorized telescopic unit with more reach.

Do I need power to use it?

The standard gravity version needs no power at all — it is fully unpowered. The optional scissor-lift base adds a small hydraulic power pack for adjusting height, but the roller flow itself is always gravity-driven.

How many people does it take to load a truck?

Typically two: one operator places cartons on the dock end, one person inside the trailer receives and stacks them. That is far faster than a single person walking in and out with each carton, and far safer because no one carries a load while climbing in and out.

    Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. The galvanized rollers and powder-coated frame resist dock-side moisture. We recommend parking it undercover when not in use to extend frame and caster life. If your dock is fully outdoors in a wet climate, ask for the upgraded stainless steel option.

What is the lead time and warranty?

Standard telescopic gravity booms ship in 15–20 days; custom lengths or scissor-lift bases take 25–30 days. The frame and rollers carry a 12-month warranty, plus lifetime support and spare parts dispatched worldwide within 48 hours.
