The automatic flap folding carton sealer operates through a combination of mechanical guide systems and sensor-triggered pneumatic or servo-driven folding mechanisms. When a carton with bottom flaps already sealed arrives at the infeed — either manually placed by an operator or automatically delivered from an upstream case erector or product loading station — photo-eye sensors detect the leading edge of the carton and signal the PLC to initiate the folding and sealing cycle.
As the carton is pulled forward by the dual side belt drive system, the first stage of flap folding occurs: two horizontal guide rails positioned at approximately 45-degree angles on either side of the conveyor path make contact with the minor (side) flaps and gradually fold them inward to a horizontal position. The guide rails are adjustable in both height and angle to accommodate different carton dimensions. For hot-melt glue models, a glue gun nozzle applies a bead of hot-melt adhesive to the flap overlap area just before the flaps are pressed together by a compression roller, creating a bond that is significantly stronger than tape.
