The automatic corner sealing machine (also known as an edge sealer or L-shape sealer) is a specialized carton sealing device designed to apply tape to the four vertical edge corners of a carton — the seams where the top and bottom flaps meet the carton side panels. Unlike standard top/bottom sealers that only seal the horizontal seams, corner sealers provide complete 360-degree carton reinforcement, significantly increasing carton stacking strength, burst resistance, and tamper evidence. This makes corner sealing essential for heavy cartons (15kg+), long-distance shipping, export packaging, and industries requiring high packaging integrity such as electronics, appliances, and industrial components.
Key functional capabilities include: four corner sealing stations — two at the top corners and two at the bottom corners — each equipped with its own tape cartridge, pressure roller, and cutting blade, allowing all four vertical edges to be sealed simultaneously in a single pass; adjustable corner sealing positions via handwheels to accommodate carton widths from 200mm to 600mm and heights from 150mm to 500mm; L-shape sealing configuration on some models that combines top/bottom seam sealing with corner sealing in a single machine, eliminating the need for a separate standard sealer; high-speed operation at 12-20 cartons per minute with consistent tape application pressure across all four corners; and integration capability with upstream flap folding sealers and downstream strapping or palletizing equipment, forming a complete end-of-line packaging system. The machine uses standard 48mm or 60mm BOPP tape and features independent tape tension adjustment for each corner station, ensuring consistent seal quality even when cartons have slightly different surface textures or corner sharpness.

How It Works & Operating Principle
Carton Infeed
Pre-sealed carton enters the corner sealing zone via side belt conveyor
Four-Corner Tape Application
Four sealing heads apply tape to all vertical edges simultaneously
Pressure & Cutting
Foam rollers press tape into corners, blades sever tape cleanly
Reinforced Carton Output
360-degree reinforced carton exits, ready for strapping or shipping
The automatic corner sealing machine operates on a multi-station mechanical principle that applies tape to all four vertical carton edges simultaneously as the carton passes through the machine. When a carton with top and bottom flaps already sealed arrives at the infeed conveyor — typically from an upstream automatic flap folding sealer — the dual side belt drive system grips the carton and pulls it into the corner sealing zone at a controlled, consistent speed.
Inside the corner sealing zone, four independent sealing heads are positioned at the four vertical edges of the carton’s travel path: two upper heads at the top-left and top-right corners, and two lower heads at the bottom-left and bottom-right corners. Each sealing head consists of a tape cartridge holding a roll of BOPP tape, a guide roller that directs the tape toward the carton corner, a foam rubber pressure roller that presses the tape firmly against the vertical edge, and an angled stationary cutting blade that severs the tape at the end of the sealing cycle.
As the carton enters the sealing zone, the leading edge of the tape from each of the four cartridges is already positioned at the carton corner, held in place by a small adhesive tab or a spring-loaded tape retainer. When the leading edge of the carton makes contact with the tape, the tape adheres to the carton surface and begins to unroll from the cartridge. As the carton continues forward, the foam pressure rollers on each head maintain consistent pressure against the vertical edges, pressing the tape firmly into the corner seam where the flap meets the side panel. This pressure is critical — it ensures that the tape conforms to the 90-degree corner angle and achieves full adhesive contact on both the flap surface and the side panel surface, creating a strong, durable bond.
When the trailing edge of the carton passes the cutting blade, the blade — positioned at a precise angle relative to the carton travel direction — severs the tape cleanly. A second, smaller pressure roller then presses the trailing edge of the tape firmly against the carton, preventing the tape from lifting or peeling during subsequent handling. The four sealing heads operate independently but in perfect synchronization, ensuring that all four corners receive identical tape length, pressure, and seal quality. The entire corner sealing process takes approximately 2-4 seconds per carton, and the machine automatically resets for the next cycle after each carton exits. For L-shape models, additional top and bottom sealing stations are integrated before the corner sealing zone, allowing the machine to perform standard top/bottom seam sealing and corner edge sealing in a single pass.

What is the lead time for this machine?
Standard machines typically ship within 15-20 business days from order confirmation. Custom configurations require 25-40 days. Every machine undergoes 48-hour continuous run testing before shipment, and we provide production progress photos throughout the manufacturing process.
Does this machine come with a warranty?
Yes, all SunAura machines come with a 12-month full warranty covering parts and labor. After the warranty period, we provide lifetime technical support via email, WhatsApp, and WeChat. Spare parts are available worldwide and typically ship within 48 hours via DHL/FedEx.
Can this machine be customized for my specific requirements?
Yes, most machines can be customized for carton size, voltage, machine color, sealing method, and additional features. We recommend sending your product/carton samples for testing before ordering. Contact our engineering team at [email protected] or WhatsApp +86-13645429121 for custom configuration consultation.
What is the difference between corner sealing and standard top/bottom sealing?
Standard top/bottom sealers only seal the horizontal seams. Corner sealers apply tape to all four vertical edge corners, providing complete 360-degree reinforcement. This increases stacking strength by 40-60% and is essential for heavy cartons, export packaging, and high-value products.

Semi-Auto Corner Sealer: Edge Protection for Fragile and Premium Cartons
The Semi-Auto Corner Sealer focuses on edge protection — applying corner tape to protect carton edges from crushing, moisture, and handling damage during transit. Unlike the L-Shape variant (designed for heavy cartons), this model targets fragile and premium product packaging where edge integrity is more important than seal strength. The gentle applicator pressure (1-3kg) prevents damage to delicate carton materials.
Ideal Application Scenarios
- Fragile product packaging (glassware, ceramics, electronics) where edge crushing during transit causes product damage
- Premium and gift packaging where carton edge appearance must remain pristine
- Art and framing shipping protecting picture frame corners from impact damage
- Medical device packaging where edge protection ensures sterile barrier integrity
Real-World Performance Data
In a 2026 ceramics export company in Jingdezhen sealing 200 cartons/day (350x250x200mm, fragile tableware):
- Damage reduction: Edge crushing incidents dropped 87% (from 12% to 1.5%)
- Applicator pressure: 1.5kg (gentle enough for thin-wall corrugated)
- Corner tape: 48mm BOPP with low-tack adhesive (removable without tearing)
- Sealing cycle: 6 seconds per carton
- ISTA 3A drop test: 95% cartons survived 1.2m drop without edge damage (vs. 60% without corner tape)
Selection Guide
Choose Semi-Auto Edge Protection if: Products are fragile, carton edges need protection from crushing, and gentle application pressure is critical.
Choose L-Shape Heavy instead if: Cartons are heavy (15kg+) and need high-pressure corner sealing for security.
Choose Full Auto Standard instead if: Volume is high (500+/day) and cartons are regular — automatic feeding is more efficient.
