90 Degree Chain Plate Conveyor System | Stainless Steel Slat Conveyor

90 Degree Chain Plate Conveyor System

The SunAura 90 degree chain plate conveyor system is a modular stainless steel slat conveyor that combines two straight sections and a quarter-turn into one heavy-duty transfer module. Instead of rollers, the product rides on linked stainless steel slats — flat, continuous and rigid — so it carries heavy, irregular or hot loads that would jam on a roller bed. CE-certified and factory-direct.

Product Description

The SunAura 90 degree chain plate conveyor system solves the heavy-load corner problem. A roller conveyor works fine for light cartons, but when you are moving dense metal components, heavy cases, hot parts or irregular loads, the gaps between rollers let soft bottoms sag, small parts fall through, and the product can topple around a curve. A chain plate (also called a slat) conveyor replaces the rollers with a continuous track of linked stainless steel slats — 80–200mm wide plates pinned together into a moving metal belt. The product sits on a flat, rigid surface the whole way through the turn.

The standard module is built as a 1m straight section, a 90-degree curve, and a second 1m straight section, so the whole unit bolts down as one ready-to-ship system. 304 stainless steel slats with 25.4–50.8mm chain pitch carry up to 80kg per meter at 0–10m/min, driven by a 0.55–1.1kW gear-motor. Widths run 200–600mm and height 600–900mm, all configurable to your line. The modular design means you can add more straight sections, extra turns, or merge it with bottle chain plate conveyors later.

Every powered system completes a 48-hour run test in our Qingdao factory before shipment. We customize slat width, chain pitch, motor voltage and side guides to match your product and layout.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Continuous slat surface: Linked stainless steel slats form a flat, rigid carrying surface — no gaps for small parts to fall through, no sagging soft bottoms.
  • Heavy 80 kg/m load rating: Carries dense, heavy loads that would overload a roller conveyor — metal parts, heavy cases, hot components.
  • Built-in 90-degree turn: The modular curve turns product through a quarter angle while it stays flat on the slats — no roller drift, no skewing.
  • 304 stainless steel build: Corrosion-resistant slats and frame suit food, beverage, washdown and industrial metalworking environments.
  • Modular bolt-together design: 1m straight sections, the 90° curve and future extensions all bolt together — reconfigure the line as production changes.
  • Variable speed 0–10 m/min: Match the slat speed to your machine cycle so heavy parts arrive at the next station in sync.
  • Handles irregular loads: Products that do not sit flat on rollers — trays, baskets, metal brackets, mixed shapes — ride stably on the slat surface.
  • 48-hour run tested: Every powered system is run loaded in our factory before it ships.

Application Industries

Heavy Carton Transfer

Dense, over-packed cartons that would sag between rollers ride flat on the slat surface through the turn.

Automotive Parts

Metal brackets, stamped parts and sub-assemblies transfer between assembly and weld cells without roller gaps.

Metal Components

Raw machined parts and heavy castings that would damage or derail a roller conveyor move safely on stainless slats.

Food Processing Lines

Stainless slats withstand washdown and carry trays, pans and products through corner transfers in food plants.

Bottling Plant Transitions

Transfers between filling, capping and labeling machines where a 90-degree direction change is needed.

Product compatibility: Heavy cartons, trays, baskets, metal components and irregular rigid loads up to 80kg/m. For single-file bottle handling, use our narrow chain plate conveyor for bottles instead.

How the Chain Plate Conveyor System Works

A slat conveyor moves the product on a continuous linked metal track rather than a row of rollers:

  1. Slats are linked into an endless track. Individual stainless steel slats (80–200mm wide) are pinned to two side chains at the 25.4–50.8mm pitch, forming a continuous metal belt that runs around head and tail sprockets.
  2. Gear-motor drives the chain. A 0.55–1.1kW gear-motor turns the head sprocket, pulling the slat chain forward at a variable 0–10m/min.
  3. Product enters on the straight section. The load sits flat on the slats at the entry end of the module; because the surface is continuous, it does not sag or tip.
  4. Slats sweep through the 90-degree curve. The chain follows a curved track, carrying the product around the quarter turn while it remains flat and square on the slats.
  5. Product exits to the next machine. The slats continue onto the exit straight and transfer the load onto the next conveyor or workstation at the matched height.

Is This the Right Conveyor for You?

This chain plate system is the right fit if your operation matches all four of the following. If you fall outside any of them, our team can recommend a roller or belt SunAura conveyor:

  1. Heavy or irregular loads over 50kg/m: If your product is too heavy for a roller conveyor, or has an irregular shape that would fall between rollers, the slat surface is the answer. Light cartons are cheaper to move on rollers.
  2. You need a 90-degree direction change: The integrated curve turns heavy loads cleanly. If you only need a straight heavy transfer, ask for a straight chain plate section without the turn.
  3. Stainless or washdown environment: The 304 stainless slats suit food, beverage and washdown areas. For dry general heavy industry, a powder-coated steel frame option is available.
  4. Speed under 10m/min: Slat conveyors are robust but slower than belts or roller beds. If you need high-speed light carton flow, a motorized roller conveyor is a better fit.

Troubleshooting Guide — Common Issues & Solutions

Slat conveyors are robust, but chain tension, sprocket wear and lubrication matter. Below are the most common problems we diagnose remotely. Always lock out power before inspecting the chain.

ProblemPossible CausesSolutions
Chain derails from the trackChain too loose; sprocket worn; side frame not aligned; excessive load on the curve.
  • Re-tension the chain to the manufacturer’s sag specification.
  • Inspect head and tail sprockets for tooth wear; replace if hooked.
  • Check the curve track is aligned with the straight sections.
  • Do not overload beyond the 80kg/m rating.
Slats jam or bind around the turnDebris caught between slats; slat bent; curve track dirty; lubrication dried out.
  • Clear any debris, food residue or swarf from between the slats and track.
  • Straighten or replace any visibly bent slat.
  • Clean and lightly lubricate the curve track per the manual.
Motor overload tripsOverload beyond 80kg/m; chain tension too tight; seized chain link; low supply voltage.
  • Reduce load to within rating.
  • Back off chain tension — over-tensioning drags the motor.
  • Identify and free any seized chain link.
  • Measure supply voltage at the motor.
Product drifts sideways on the slatsSide guides missing; slat surface worn slick; load off-center; chain tracking off.
  • Install or adjust side guides to retain the product.
  • Check the chain runs centered on the sprockets; adjust tail shaft.
  • Center the load on the slat surface.
Excessive noise or slappingDry chain; worn slat bushings; loose sprocket bolts; track wear strip worn.
  • Lubricate the chain with a suitable chain lubricant.
  • Replace slats with worn end bushings.
  • Torque sprocket mounting bolts.
  • Replace worn wear strips in the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a chain plate instead of a roller conveyor?

Rollers have gaps, which soft or small loads can fall through or sag between, and heavy loads can overload them. A chain plate provides a continuous, rigid flat carrying surface that supports heavy, irregular or soft-bottomed loads through the whole transfer, including around the 90-degree turn.

What does the standard module include?

The standard system ships as one bolted module: a 1m straight entry section, the 90-degree curve, and a 1m straight exit section, with drive motor, frame and adjustable legs. We can extend either straight side or add more turns as your layout requires.

Is it suitable for food or washdown areas?

Yes. The 304 stainless steel slats and frame are designed for food processing, beverage and washdown environments. All fasteners are stainless steel to avoid rust, and the slats wipe or hose clean easily.

How fast does it run?

Standard speed is variable from 0 to 10m/min. Slat conveyors are built for robustness rather than high speed — the trade-off is that they carry 80kg/m of heavy load that a faster light-duty conveyor could not handle.

What is the lead time and warranty?

Standard modules ship in 20–30 days; custom slat widths, lengths and turns take 30–40 days. The system carries a 12-month warranty covering parts and labor, plus lifetime support. Spare slats, chains and sprockets are dispatched worldwide within 48 hours.
